SAFETY
The Westwego terminal has an exemplary
safety record. For
the last three years, the Blackwater terminal has experienced
no recordable injuries with over 28,000 man-hours worked. This
track record is evidence of the management, training, and systems
in place to ensure a safe work environment. The facility
inspection program and operational procedures further minimize
risk and employee injuries.
Product handling safety is key. The Management Team utilizes
a system called “process change” to evaluate new
products for storage at the facility. The engineering and
regulatory requirements, and necessary operator skills are evaluated. Employees
are fully trained on the hazards associated with products stored
at the terminal. Each employee is outfitted with the proper
Personal Protective Equipment and trained in its use. Finally,
detailed emergency response plans and procedures are in place
as required by the U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Transportation,
Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency.
Blackwater New Orleans, LLC is committed to
the safety of its employees and neighbors. It is one of the five company members of the
Westwego Community Action Panel. The program is intended
to convey information regarding the various products stored at
the member facilities and how they are used in the area by the
multiple chemical and other manufacturing industries
